Machilipatnam: A special package of Rs. 22.26 crores has been finalised to rehabilitate 5,572 families of Kaikuluru and Mandavalli mandals, which lost livelihood in the wake of destruction of fish ponds as part of Operation Kolleru.

DRDA project director M. Ravikumar said here on Wednesday that the district administration was taking steps to provide loans to the tune of Rs.12 crores from commercial banks. Of this, beneficiaries would have to bear Rs. 2.22 crores while Rs.8.30 crores would be borne by Government as subsidy to affected fish farmers of the two mandals.

Mr. Ravikumar said that 4,213families of Kaikaluru mandal, covering 12 gram panchayats and 13 hamlets, which were below the poverty line, would be covered under the special package. Similarly, 1,359 affected families in Mandavilli mandal, covering nine gram panchayats and three hamlets, would be covered.
