Two alleged terrorists arrested

NEW DELHI: Two alleged terrorists owing allegiance to Harkat ul-Jihad Islami (HuJI) have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police.

According to the police, Lutuful Rehman and Mohammad Amin Wani were arrested on January 4. An electronic detonator, 1.6 kg of explosives and Rs. 4.5 lakhs in cash were recovered from them. The explosives have been sent for examination.

Acting on a tip-off, Lutuful Rehman, a resident of Bangladesh, was arrested at Nizamuddin, while his Kashmiri aide Mohammad Amin Wani was arrested in Adarsh Nagar.

The two were working for alleged HuJI terrorist Sher Khan and are being interrogated to know what they planned to target in the Capital.

Old woman found dead in Lajpat Nagar

NEW DELHI: A 60-year-old woman was found dead under highly mysterious circumstances at Lajpat Nagar here on Tuesday night.

According to the police, Sheila Devi was staying alone for the past two years. The body has been sent for post-mortem and doctors have not ruled out cardiac arrest as the cause of death. But a murder case has been registered and the police are investigating all possible angles.

1,383 applications for tenant verification

NEW DELHI: A day after action was initiated against 39 people for failing to comply with tenant verification order, the East Delhi police received 1,383 applications for tenant verification on Wednesday.

On an average, some 200 applications are received on a single day but the action has led to a large number of people flocking to the police station with the applications, the police said.

On Tuesday, 21 people were arrested in East Delhi, four in North-East, two in North-West, five in South-West and one in West Delhi.
