In a press statement Maoist Chairman Prachanda said, "With the promulgation of interim constitution and the formation of interim legislature, the people's governments and people's courts have been dissolved." The dissolution complies with the provision in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) signed with the Seven-Party Alliance on November 8. All-party local bodies will now be formed to fill the political vacuum. Mr. Prachanda has warned against revoking the "right decisions" of the people's governments and courts. "Revoking them will be unacceptable to us," said the statement. A meeting of the Maoist lawmakers on Thursday elected Krishna Bahadur Mahara as the chief of the Maoist Parliamentary Party and Dina Nath Sharma as Chief Whip.
