MUMBAI: The TADA court on Thursdaygranted actor Sanjay Dutt time till February 6 to surrender in the March 12, 1993 serial blasts case.

Arguments also began on his plea seeking relief under the provisions of the Probation of Offenders Act.

Designated TADA judge P.D. Kode dismissed an application from an intervener whose identity was kept confidential. The application demanded to know why Mr. Dutt, convicted under the Arms Act, alone should be given the benefit of the Probation of Offenders Act.

The prosecution had opposed Mr. Dutt's application, saying he is not entitled to the benefits of the Act as the offence for which he was convicted was grave. Special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam feared this would set a precedent. After Mr. Kode dismissed the application, senior counsel V.R. Manohar began his arguments. It will continue on February 6.
