Three arrested for allegedly beating up TV cameramen

NELLORE: As many as three cameramen of two prominent news channels were injured when contractors allegedly beat them up for picturising the tussle between contractors during sand tender process at Zilla Parishad office here on Thursday.

The injured have been identified as Srinivas and Prasad of Zee news and Suresh of TV9. In a swift action, the I Town police have arrested three contractors, who are accused in the incident, and begun search for a fourth accused.

According to the police, there was an altercation between contractors, who are taking part in the tender process of important sand reaches such as Mudivarthi palem, Pottepalem and Sankarnagar reaches. Some of them lynched on the camera crew shooting the incident even before the crew realised what was happening. The arrested were D. Jithendrababu, Ojili Audiseshaiah and Sivaprasad Reddy. Search was on for Duvvuru Venkatasubbaiah, the fourth accused in the incident.

Meanwhile, P. Rajasekhar, Nellore unit president, Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists, and Secretary P. Bhaskar Reddy have condemned the incident and urged the police to take stringent action against the errant contractors.
