`Construct jetty'
The fishermen alleged that sand mining and transportation of sand in boats to the jetty at Kodibag near the river mouth has hampered fishing activities as the boats tore fishing nets. They pointed out that the Deputy Commissioner had promised to build a jetty at Halaga village on the riverbank, but it has not materialised. Gangadhar Bhat, MLA, said that he had written a letter to H.D. Revanna, minister for PWD and Energy, to construct the jetty at Halaga. Special Correspondent

Farmer ends life in Davangere
Dharmanna (23) of Basavanakote village in Jagalur taluk who had three acres of land had cultivated maize. He became distraught when the crop failed. Since he had huge debts to clear, he might have taken the extreme steps, the police said. Dharmanna is the second farmer to commit suicide in the past one week in the district. Staff Correspondent
