BANGALORE: The Kannada Development Authority (KDA) has mooted the idea of making mandatory employment of Kannadigas in the private sector in lower category posts. Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Kannada Development Authority chairman Siddalingaiah said after consultation with the officials of the Labour and Information Technology and Biotechnology (IT, BT) departments, the authority would recommend to Government that investors should give an undertaking that they would employ only Kannadigas for Group C and D Group jobs.

The public sector firms such as BEL had employed 60 per cent of Kannadigas in Group C and D posts, he said.

Dr. Siddalingaiah said that he had recently visited the HAL factory and told the authorities to conduct campus interviews in various universities of the State to recruit Kannada candidates in the company. The Sarojini Mahishi Committee Report, which recommended jobs for Kannadigas in the private sector, is still relevant, he said. As the State is celebrating "Suvarna Karnataka", the KDA had decided to pay more attention to "Kannadikarana" of Bangalore and the rest of the State. It has proposed to impose a fine of Rs. 5,000 against companies and business establishments who failed to display Kannada name boards, Dr. Siddalingiah said.
