BANGALORE: "Do not sell your votes. Instead, use the occasion of elections to get infrastructure and civic amenities for your slums. Because you live in such a pathetic condition in which only pigs and dogs can live... " Well, this is the spirit of the awareness drive the Bahujan Samaj Party is planning to launch in the slums of Bangalore.

BSP State unit president B. Gopal told The Hindu on Thursday that the party had chalked out a programme to visit every slum in Bangalore ahead of the elections to the Greater Bangalore.

He said that the party was concentrating on Bangalore as the city would have nearly 800 slums in its jurisdiction with the formation of Greater Bangalore.

The city would have nearly 40 lakh slum dwellers.

The party began its exercise on Thursday by holding a convention of its workers from the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike area.

A majority of those who took part in the convention were slum dwellers, especially women.
