Good show by Narain

Sports Reporter

Coimbatore: Narain Karthikeyan set a blistering pace on his debut in an A1 GP car at the Taupo Motorsport Park in New Zealand on Friday.

The 30-year-old finished the day second overall, just 0.055s behind Czech driver Tomas Enge, after 54 laps. Tomas, a former F1 driver, managed to keep the Indian off the top spot — a position that Narain had held on to for nearly half the session.

Official practice (top five):

Session 1: 1. Loic Duval (Fra) 1.15.601 (15 laps); 2. Narain Karthikeyan (Ind) 1.16.188 (29); 3. Renger Van der Zande (Ned) 1.16.344 (27); 4. Marcel Fassler (Sui) 1.16.412 (26); 5. Fairuz Fauzy (Mal) 1.16.490.

Session 2: 1. Tomas Enge (Cze) 1.15.248 (24); 2. Narain 1.15.303 (20); 3. Duval 1.15.368 (20), Richard Lyons (Ire) 1.15.380 (23); 5. Nico Hulkenberg (Ger) 1.15.407 (24).
