Tiruvallur takes control; Coimbatore sitting pretty

CHENNAI: Tiruvallur DCA took control on day one of the TNCA inter-districts under-15 tournament pre-quarterfinal, dismissing Thiruvannamalai for 108 and replying with 114 for two by close.

At Chennai: Thiruvannamalai 108 in 62.1 overs vs. Tiruvallur 114 for two in 41 overs (B. Aparajith 52 batting, A. Sriram 39 batting).

At Coimbatore: Coimbatore 272 for nine in 78 overs (Arun Balaji 73, G. Srivardhan 117, K. Karthikeyan five for 65) vs. Pondicherry 15 for two in 13 overs.

At Udhagamandalam: Sivagangai 49 in 36 overs (C. Akash five for 14) vs. Nilgiris 202 for eight in 55 overs (R. Shyam Nath 83, Gaurav Ganapathy 44).

American College HSS `A' and `B' teams entered the semifinals of the Vikram Trophy football tournament for Madurai and Sivagangai Districts at the Vikram College of Engineering ground, Enathi, on Friday.

Ram wins

Top seed Ram S. Krishnan of BSNL, with nine points, won the title in the SGKNKM Trophy FIDE-rated chess tournament at Dindigul on Thursday.

Easy for Bishop Heber

Bishop Heber College defeated Challenge Union Football Club 3-0 in a Tiruchi District Football Association second division league match at Tiruchi on Friday.

Dorji's first-half goal gave Bishop Heber the lead. Ghouse Khan and Suresh netted in the second half to complete the tally.

In another encounter, Rising Sun FC edged SQAE FC 1-0. Karthik scored the winner in the dying minutes of the match.

The results: Bishop Heber College 3 (Dorji, Ghouse Khan, Suresh) bt Challenge Union FC 0; Rising Sun FC 1 (Karthik) bt SQAE FC 0.

Bilwa, Zia shine

All-round performances by Bilwa Prasad and Zia-ul-Sharif enabled Vellore defeat host Dindigul by 79 runs in the TNCA under-19 quarterfinal recently.
