By-polls: Filing of nominations begins

Tuticorin: Filing of nominations for by-elections to various local bodies commenced in the district on Friday. Only one nomination for the post of president of Kulasekarapattinam village panchayat was received on the first day.

The by-elections were scheduled for the posts of presidents of Paraikootam village panchayat (Ottapidaram block), Sivagnanapuram (Vilathikulam block), Kulasekarapattinam (Udangudi block) and Meerankulam (Alwarthirunagari block).

Besides, by-elections will be conducted to elect 24 village panchayat ward members and one Town panchayat ward member.

The last date of filing nominations is January 27 and scrutiny of nominations will be held on January 29. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is January 31. The polls are scheduled for February 8 and counting of votesthe following day.
