ONGC shocks Punjab

Mumbai: ONGC (Chhattisgarh) stunned powerhouse Punjab 76-69 in a men's round-robin league match of the second Savio Cup Don Bosco all-India basketball tournament at the Don Bosco court, Matunga, on Friday.

Fielding junior and senior internationals, the latter led 54-49 at the third quarter, but fumbled under the offensive board.

ONGC, served well by Murli Krishna, Sridhar and Desraj against Punjab, later ended on the losing side against South Central Railway 82-78, unable to stop Kumar Verma and Shiva Reddy who ran riot.

SCR had earlier bowed to Services, going down 44-82.

The event is co-sponsored by United Phosphorus and Deutsche Bank.

Men: Services 82 (Dalip Kumar 10, Phool Singh 11, Jai Ramjat 20, Navneet Singh 11) bt South Central Railway 44 (Liju Abraham 11, K. Vishal Kumar 11).

ONGC 76 (Murli Krishna 19, Desraj 24. S. Sridhar 17) bt Punjab 69 (Vijay Kumar 11, M.K. Mishra 21, Deepak Kumar 14, Dilawar Singh 15).
