DHARMASTHALA: The temple town of Dharmasthala is getting ready to hold the week-long celebrations of "Mahamastakabhisheka" of Lord Bahubali. The celebrations will be inaugurated on January 28 and mastakabhisheka will be held on February 1, 2 and 3. Addressing a presspersons here on Friday, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala D. Veerendra Heggade said that religious rituals will begin on January 29 with "Panchakalyana Kriyas" of Parshwanatha Thirthankara, and will end with 1008 "Kalasha Mahabhisheka" on February 3. About 50,000 Jain pilgrims from all over the country and abroad are likely to witness the mahamastakabhisheka. Jain religious leaders, including 108th Vardhamana Sagara Muni Maharaj, Taruna Sagara Muni Maharaj, seers from various maths will be present on the occasion.
Special arrangements
The 39-foot tall monolithic statue of Bahubali was installed and consecrated at Dharmasthala in 1982. The first mahamastakabhisheka was performed in 1985, Dr. Heggade said. The temple town had geared up to welcome the devotees for the third mahamastakabhisheka, he added. Special arrangements have been made for devotees to have "darshan" of Lord Manjunatheshwara, he added. He said that the Government had been apprise about the bad condition of National Highway 48.
