Examinations postponed

Thiruvananthapuram: The Pre-Board examinations for Classes X and XII at St. Thomas Central School, scheduled to be held on Saturday, has been postponed. The new date will be announced later.

Curry powder seized

Thiruvananthapuram: A Health Squad of the City Corporation on Friday seized 1,500 kg of a brand of curry powder that had tested positive for carcinogenic compounds last week. The entire lot was seized from a wholesale unit functioning from the world market at Anayara. Corporation officials said the District Food Inspector had sent samples of the brand to the Government Laboratory last week, following complaints about adulteration. It was found to contain banned substances, they said. Following the incident, retail shops removed the brand from their shelves. "The samples have been sent to the laboratory for analysis," they said.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Canara Bank Mahila Banking branch, Pattom, celebrated `Self-Help Group Day' on Thursday. P. Mohanan, general manager of the bank, addressed the self-help group beneficiaries. The function was attended by T.S.M. Nair, divisional manager, among others. The bank has formed over one lakh such groups. — Staff Reporter
