UAE lifts ban on egg import; MP thanked

NAMAKKAL: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has lifted the ban on import of eggs from India with effect from January 19. The ban was imposed following the bird flu outbreak last year.

Participating at a meeting organised here on Friday to thank Rasipuram MP Rani (Congress) for taking efforts to present India's case before the UAE officials, the members of the Namakkal zone of the National Egg Co-ordination Committee (NECC) said that Namakkal had exported large quantity of eggs to UAE prior to the ban.

A delegation led by Ms. Rani met senior officials of the UAE Government recently and requested them to lift the ban.

Demand

Addressing the meeting, Ms. Rani promised that she would extend her support for the growth of the poultry industry. The industry's demand for establishing a modern veterinary laboratory in Namakkal and rescheduling the bank loans for another year would be taken to the notice of ministries concerned, she said.

Earlier, NECC Namakkal Zone Chairman Dr. P. Selvaraj and Tamil Nadu Poultry Farmers Association president R. Nallathambi spoke.
