NEW DELHI: The Government has scheduled a meeting of the empowered Group of Ministers (GoM) on Special Economic Zones (SEZs) on Monday to discuss, among other things, the controversial issue of land acquisition. ``Every issue that has been raised in relation to SEZs would be placed before the empowered GoM for direction,'' Commerce Secretary and Chairman of the Board of Approvals for SEZs, G.K. Pillai told industrialists here on Saturday. The GoM will also decide whether to clear only those proposals where land has been acquired or give in-principle clearances. The Board is taking up proposals for IT SEZs where developers have already acquired land. The GoM would also have on its agenda the possibility of putting a limit on the number of SEZs in a particular sector. At its meeting in August last, it removed the limit on number and resolved to review the situation after five months or when 75 SEZs become operational, whichever was earlier.
