Puducherry: Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil on Saturday visited Moorthy Pudukuppam and Veerampattinam villages, where families of tsunami-hit fishermen have been rehabilitated in 225 houses built by the New Delhi-based non governmental organisation, SOS Children Villages of India. Mr. Patil was accompanied by Lt. Governor Mukut Mithi, Chief Minister N Rangasamy and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs S. Regupathy. Mr. Patil then visited Veerampattinam village where the Government of Maharashtra has funded a housing scheme. Principal Secretary of Maharashtra B.P. Pandey, finance advisor B.M. Daund and project director of Puducherry G. Theva Needhi Dhas explained the progress of work. Mr. Patil planted a coconut sapling. The Maharashtra Government proposes to construct 2000 houses in tsunami-hit villages in Puducherry and Karaikal districts. An informed source told reporters that at Veerampattinam that 300 houses were nearing completion. Mr. Patil visited later the Sri Aurobindo Ashram.
