WARM RECEPTION: Union Home Minister Shivaraj Patil (third from left), Lt. Governor Mukut Mithi (extreme right) and Chief Minister N. Rangasamy (second from left) coming out of the helipad in Puducherry on Saturday.
Puducherry: Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil was all praise for the maintenance of Puducherry. Talking to newsmen before winding up his short visit to Puducherry at Raj Nivas here on Saturday, Mr. Patil said that he was pleased to be in Puducherry, which was different and better from other places. Mr. Patil, who earlier visited Moorthy Pudukuppam and Veerampattinam (two tsunami-hit hamlets) to see for himself the construction of houses for rehabilitation of the tsunami-hit villagers, said he had visited the villages and could see that a good job had been done there, although many more houses were yet to be constructed. The Home Minister, who had held discussions with Lt Governor Mukut Mithi and Chief Minister N. Rangasamy earlier after visiting the two villages, said that he could see there was no problem here. Even if there was any, it could be settled with the Chief Minister, his colleagues, the Members of Parliament and others sitting together. Mr. Patil was given a warm reception on arrival at helipad earlier. Lt. Governor, the Chief Minister, Pattali Makkal Katchi Parliamentary Party leader M. Ramadoss, Speaker R. Radhakrishnan, former Speaker M.D.R. Ramachandran, Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee president P. Shanmugham, Ministers, Legislators, Chief Secretary Pradip Mehra, Inspector General of Police Kishan Kumar, Secretaries and District Collector G. Theva Needhi Dhas were among those who received him at the helipad. The Puducherry police presented a guard of honour. The Union Minister of State for Home S. Regupathy, Chairman of Linguistic Minorities Commission Suresh Keshwani and Chief Whip of the Congress in Rajya Sabha V. Narayanasamy accompanied the Home Minister to Puducherry.
