Mayor demands relief for shopkeepers

NEW DELHI: Delhi Mayor Farhad Suri on Saturday asked the Municipal Corporation to ensure proper rehabilitation of all the shopkeepers being relocated from the city's Jama Masjid area. He issued these directions after reviewing development work along the Shastri Park drain where displaced shopkeepers would be relocated.

He told senior MCD officials that proper care should be taken while allocating spaces to shopkeepers. After inspecting the development work, Mr. Suri also interacted with representatives of the Old Clothes Shopkeepers' Welfare Association and heard out their grievances.

Global conference

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police Public School and the Sensory Integration Society of India have jointly organised a three-day International Conference on Sensory Integration to create awareness about learning disabilities.

Being hosted by DPPS, the workshop that ends on Sunday aims at updating paediatricians, schoolteachers, counsellors and special educators on sensory integration, early intervention and therapy. Separate sessions are being organised for therapists and teachers for identification of sensory integration disorders and intervention and management in the school system.

Birthday celebrated

NEW DELHI: To mark the 157th birth anniversary of Romania's national poet Mihai Eminescu, the Indo-Romanian Cultural Association organised a function at Delhi University on Saturday.

Indo-Romanian Cultural Association president Ashok Kumar Tyagi delivered a lecture on Eminescu's life, literature and philosophy. He recited his poems in Romanian and then translated them into Hindi. Disclosing the Indian roots and references in Eminescu's poetry, he said the Romanian poet was influenced and impressed by the great ancient Indian literature and culture.

Nanda remembered

NEW DELHI: In memory of former Prime Minister Gulzarilal Nanda, Manav Dharm Mission organised "Samaj Gaurav Samman- 2006" at Om Shanti Retreat Centre in neighbouring Gurgaon over the weekend.

Haryana Governor A. R. Kidwai presented the award to senior artist Jayshree Mitra for her distinguished work. Consisting of a citation and shield, the honour is conferred on eminent personalities who have contributed to building the country and uplifting society in any field.

Gulzarilal Nanda founded Manav Dharm Mission in 1968.
