Gold medallists have clear aim

Some want administrative services, others want to take up research

HUBLI: Many of the graduate and postgraduate students who bagged gold medals at the 57th Annual Convocation of Karnatak University here on Saturday are keen on joining the administrative services. Their second choice is research work.

Gold medallists, who shared their happiness with presspersons after the convocation ceremony, attributed their success to hard work and parental and peer support.

Winner of seven gold medals Regina James D'souza said the semester system had in a way helped her as it made students to be prepared always.

Ms. Regina said she planned to take up research on "Molecular Biology in Cancer Treatment".

S.M. Gowramma of Dr. R.C. Hiremath Kannada Study Centre said her first preference was administrative service.

She has registered for a Ph.D. programme and is preparing for competitive examinations also.

"It is group discussion and peer support that helped me bag six gold medals," said Manjunath V. Hegde of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism.

He is already employed in a newspaper and intends to take up research on "Convergence of traditional and modern media".

Savita Hugar, who bagged three gold medals in B.A.L.L.B, hopes to join administrative service or become a judicial officer.

Already doing her postgraduation in corporate law, she intends to take up research too.
