TIRUPATI: The CPI(M) has on Saturday demanded a detailed probe by a House Committee into the alleged irregularities involving several crores in the execution of various civil works in the SV University. Secretary of the party's Chittoor district unit, K. Murali has also demanded the university authorities to make public the report submitted by the State Vigilance Commission to the Director General confirming the charges which were referred to it for a probe. Charging that the vested interests in the university top-brass were deliberately trying to hush up the enquiry committee reports, he pointed out that these enquiries apart, a separate probe by the Lok Ayukta also was in progress into certain serious acts of commission and omission, allegedly committed by the authorities concerned. The works involved in the controversy include even the ones executed in the Kadapa PG centre and other places. Talking to reporters here today, Murali also listed the seven different points to be probed by the House Committee and said that only such a comprehensive probe would be able to ferret out the truth and expose the guilty. Citing some of the alleged improprieties, he questioned under what authority did the university's engineer draw a cash advance of Rs.1.3 crores. Another point raised by the CPI(M) leader was the alleged violation of the university rule in providing a `mobilisation advance' of Rs. 3 crores to the contractor executing the PG Centre works at Kadapa.
