Upset win for Thiruvananthapuram

Palakkad: Thiruvananthapuram upset defending champion Palakkad by 75 runs to lift the title in the State sub-junior championship which concluded at Kotta Maidan here on Saturday.

Thiruvananthapuram rode on a half-century from S. Asha (86) to post 168 runs. However, in reply Palakkad was bundled out for 93 in the 27th over.

S. Asha of Thiruvananthapuram was chosen as the best player of the tournament while her team-mate Gayatri was declared as the best promising player.

The scores:Final: Thiruvananthapuram 168 in 29.4 overs (S. Asha 86) bt Palakkad 93 in 26.4 overs

Semifinals: Thiruvananthapuram 238 for five in 30 overs (S.Asha 128 not out) bt Malappuram 68 in 18.3 overs

Calicut 83 in 27.5 overs (T. Shani 38) lost to Palakkad 83 for five in 18 overs.

Big win for Eagles

At Kozhikode, Eagles thrashed Cromtrust RC 3-0 in the Videocon Kozhikode `D' Division football league on Saturday.

Later, Govt. Polytechnic beat Malabar Christian College 1-0.
