Comfortable win for MGU

KOTTAYAM: There were a few kabaddi players and judokas in the side.

The Kachchh University team from Gujarat had a shot-putter too. And when it opened its campaign against host Mahatma Gandhi University in the South-West Zone inter-university women's volleyball championship here on Saturday evening, it looked like the young girls from Bhuj were rather new to the sport.

Given the conditions, the MGU girls massacred their opponents without mercy winning the match 25-3, 25-5, 25-3.

The results (first round): Mahatma Gandhi, Kottayam bt Kachchh, Bhuj 25-3, 25-5, 25-3; Anna bt Devi Ahaliya 25-3, 25-6, 25-7; Mangalore bt Periyar 25-13, 25-14, 25-3; Sholapur bt Bhavnagar 25-5, 25-5, 25-2; Bangalore bt RSTM, Nagpur 25-15, 25-8, 12-25,19-25, 15-3; Jai Narayan Vyas, Jodhpur bt JNTU, Hyderabad 26-24, 25-20, 25-22; Pondicherry bt Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences 25-15, 25-14, 27-25; LNIPE, Gwalior bt MS, Baroda 25-5, 25-3, 25-11; Amaravathy bt Bikaner 25-17, 25-20, 25-13. — Principal Correspondent
