Pradeep, Ravindra in lead

HASSAN: The lead kept changing in the Maruti Suzuki Discover Karnataka Rally.

On Saturday morning, on the second day, after 190kms of the day's 380km was completed, Pradeep Urs and Ravindra in their Esteem gained a slender lead over Ashwin Naik and Moosa Sharief.

At the end of the first day, Emmanuel Anandraj and his co-drivers John Jose and Chandrashekar in their Esteem had pipped Girijashankar Joshi (GM Srikanth) by just one second to bag the first leg prize of Rs 10,000.

In the novice section, the lead was maintained by Ratan (co-driver Ravi) in a Maruti Zen.

The results (day two, half-way stage): Open Class: 1. Pradeep Urs (Ravindra) Esteem; 2. Ashwin Naik (Moosa Shareif) Maruti 800; 3. Emmanuel (John Jose, Chandrashekar) Esteem; 4. Girijashankar Joshi (Shrikanth) Santro; 5. Logeshwaran (Raja/ Velumurugan) Maruti 800.

Novice: 1. Ratan (Ravi) Maruti Zen; 2. Prashanth (Ashok) Baleno; 3 Sujay (Chidanand) Esteem.

First day's leg prizes: (Winner Rs. 10,000, second Rs. 7,000, third Rs. 5,000): Open class: Emmanuel (John Jose/ Chandrashekar); 2. Girijashankar Joshi (BM Shrikanth); 3. Ashwin Naik (Moosa Sharief).

Prashanth shines

A fine spell of left-arm spin bowling by Prashanth (five for 19) enabled Mangalore Sports Club to post a comfortable 99 run win over National Institute of Technology - Karnataka `A' (Srinivasnagar) in a KSCA Mangalore zone first division pool `A' cricket tournament here on Saturday.

The scores: First Division: Pool `A': Mangalore Sports Club 227 for 8 in 50 overs (Archan Rao 63, K.L. Rahul 46) beat NIT-K `A' 128 in 35.4 overs (Prashanth five for 19).

Seven share lead

Seven players — B.S. Shivananda, M.S. Thej Kumar, Sriram Sarja, Aravind Shastry, Anil Shetty, Girish Kaushik and Stany G.A. — share the lead with four points apiece at the end of four rounds of state open rapid chess championships, which got underway at Mangalore on Saturday. Suraj M., Shruthi K., Niranjan Shetty and Narayan Bhat are 0.5 points adrift of the seven-man leader pack.
