Hooda invites investments

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Saturday urged Premier of Ontario Dalton McGuinty to invest in Haryana.

Speaking at a seminar organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry here in the presence of a Canadian delegation led by Mr. McGuinty, the Chief Minister said there were several areas of mutual cooperation with Ontario, especially in automotive industry, power, agriculture and agri-food, education, infrastructure projects and environment.

He said that there were operational synergies between Haryana and the Canadian automotive industry as Magna, an automotive supplier, had set up its first manufacturing plant at Manesar in collaboration with Lumax.

Mr. Hooda invited the Canadian and Ontario-based firms to invest in power transmission and distribution and food processing in Haryana. He said the Government was also encouraging university-to-university linkages with Haryana Agricultural University, Hissar, besides linkages with the State's firms in the field of education in Nano Technology, Agri-biotechnology and Information and Communication Technology. He also invited the Canadian universities to set up centres of excellence in the upcoming Rajiv Gandhi Education City, Kundli. He disclosed that Haryana had received investment of about Rs.100 billion since 2005. Projects with an investment of more than Rs. 400 billion were also in the pipeline.
