Temperatures on the rise

But no relief for residents of Himachal Pradesh, Amritsar

Chandigarh: The minimum temperatures on Saturday settled a few notches above the normal range at most places in Punjab and Haryana.

As the cold wave abated from most places in the region, Chandigarh recorded a low of 7.6 degrees Celsius, a degree above normal, the Meteorological Department said here.

Hissar had a low of 9 degrees, while Ambala registered a low of 6.9 degrees. The minimum at Karnal was 6.4 degrees. Most places in Punjab also saw the minimum temperature rise.

Patiala recorded a low of 7.4 while the low at Ludhiana was recorded at 6.5, a degree above normal.

However, Amritsar residents were yet to get any relief from the current cold spell, with the low there touching 2 degrees, down 3 degrees.

Some relief

JAIPUR: The effect of western disturbances guided the mercury across Rajasthan to take an upward swing on Saturday giving some relief to people.

Sriganganagar registered the lowest temperature of 5.5 degrees Celsius, the weatherman said. Sriganganagar was followed by Pilani which recorded a minimum of 6.1, Churu 6.8, Mount Abu 7, Bikaner 8.3, Dholpur 8.9, Jaipur 9, Dabok 9.2, Jaisalmer 10.2, Bhilwara, Sawaimadhopur 10.7, Jhalawar 10.8, Ajmer 11.5, Kota 12.6 and Ravatbhata recorded a minimum temperature of 13.2 degrees Celsius.

Cold intensifies

SHIMLA: Cold wave conditions intensified in Shimla town and elsewhere in Himachal Pradesh on Saturday with the mercury going down by one or two degrees.

State capital Shimla, which had recorded a minimum temperature of 4.5 degrees Celsius on Friday, registered a low of 2.4 degrees on Saturday, the weatherman said. The temperature at Sundarnagar and Bhuntar also went down. The temperatures on Saturday were 1.5 and 0.6 degree C. In Kalpa, the low was 5.1 degree Celsius.

The weatherman has forecast mainly dry weather in the region on Sunday.

Cold wave conditions prevailed in the high-altitude areas as also the tribal valleys of Lahaul and Spiti, where the minimum temperature ranged between minus 9 and minus 20 degree Celsius, official sources said. -- PTI
