Entrance test

Belgaum: The KLE Academy of Higher Education & Research (KAHE), a deemed university, has announced that it will conduct Post Graduate All India Entrance Test `PGAIET-2007' at seven centres in the country viz. Belgaum, Bangalore, Pune, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Hyderabad and New Delhi on January 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for admission to the postgraduate medical and dental Courses at the constituent colleges - Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Institute of Dental Sciences in Belgaum for the academic year 2007-08, according to a release. — Staff Correspondent

Three arrested

HUBLI: The Hubli Police have arrested three persons on charge of burglary and recovered 46 gm of gold jewellery from them. The names of the arrested have been given as Ravi H. Yalaganahalli, Ansar Pasha A.M. Sheikh and John Peter, all residents of Hubli. A case has been registered at Keshwapur Police Station. — Staff Correspondent

Folk festival

PANAJI: About 100 craftspersons from Goa and outside the State, apart from 150 artistes from different parts of the country, will participate in the 8th national-level art and crafts fair "Lokotsav 07" (folk festival). The festival is being jointly organised by the Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Goa, West Zone Culture Centre, Udaipur, and Kala Academy, Goa, for 10 days from February 27, according to Minister for Art and Culture Digambar Kamat on Friday. — Special Correspondent

Call to repay loans

Sirsi: Without waiting for loan waiver, farmers should repay the loans, Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar has said. Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa were discussing the matter but no date was fixed for loan waiver, Mr. Shettar told presspersons at Buddha temple at Tibetan colony Mundgod on Saturday. District BJP president Vinod Prabhu was present. — Correspondent

Karwar: Kadamba festival, an annual event, scheduled to be held at Banavasi in the first week of February, has been postponed. According to Deputy Commissioner Ritesh Kumar Singh, it will now be held in March. — Correspondent

HASSAN: Block Education Officer of Hassan Taluk H.K. Pushpalatha has said in a press release that retired high school teachers will be appointed to government high schools started in the last year (2006-2007) and given an honorarium of Rs. 4,000 for three months (up to March 31). Two teachers would be appointed for each new school. Those interested could submit their applications to the Block Education Office, Hassan, immediately. — Staff Correspondent

`Complete project'

BIJAPUR: The Zilla Kereneeru Thumbuva Horata Samiti has urged the Government to fill all 97 minor irrigation tanks by pumping water from the Krishna and its tributaries in a time-bound programme for two years. Samiti president Basavaraj Kumbar and member and Leader of the Opposition in the zilla panchayat Panchappa Kalburgi said the Government had given administrative approval only for the Tikota sub-scheme consisting of 16 tanks. The Government should announce a specific time to accomplish the task, they added. — Staff Correspondent

GULBARGA: Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner K. Three arrested on theft charge

MYSORE: The Mysore City Police have arrested three persons in connection with theft of two-wheelers in the city on January 17, according to a release. They are Abhi (18) of Irwin Road, Raghu (19) of

Udayagiri extension and Mohammad (18) of Lashkar Mohalla.

They were arrested when they were trying to sell a stolen two-wheeler. A case has been registered. — Staff Correspondent

MUDA releasesfunds MYSORE: Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) has released Rs. 1.87 crore for construction of a road connecting Ashokpuram,

Vidyaranyapuram and Kuvempu Nagar, and anoverbridge, according to M.K. Somashekar, MLA.

Slum dwellers who would be evicted for construction of the road would be provided houses near the Kopplu Ring Road, he said. — Staff Correspondent

Two nursing colleges approved

BANGALORE: Based on the recommendations of the Indian Nursing Council, the State Cabinet sub-committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa on Saturday decided to sanction two private nursing colleges. The cabinet sub-committee received 21 applications seeking sanction for new colleges, Medical Education Minister V.S. Acharya said in a briefing to presspersons. Of these 15 were rejected. — Special Correspondent

Weavers' society demands apology

BANGALORE: The Mysore Powerloom Silk Manufacturers' Cooperative Society Ltd. Has alleged that Sericulture Minister Ramachandra Gowda had insulted the weavers' representatives by making harsh comments at an interaction meeting organised with the Union Textiles Minister on the Central Silk Board Amendments in Bangalore last week. In a press release, society chairman Vijayakumar demanded that Ramachandra Gowda should apologise to weavers for his comments. He threatened to launch an agitation if the Minister failed to apologise to the community. — Staff Reporter
