Additional coaches for new train sought

Staff Reporter

KANNUR: The North Malabar Railway Users' Forum (NMRUF) has urged the Railway authorities to attach at least seven coaches to the new Mangalore-Chennai-Egmore-Puducherry train that was flagged off at Mahe by the Minister of State for Railways R. Velu.

In a representation sent to Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, NMRUF general secretary Nata Rajan said the flagging off of the train had been a waste of money as the new train was just the existing Link Express renamed and extended to Egmore. Not a single coach had been attached to the new train for passengers to Puducherry, he said

He suggested that one AC, four sleeper and two unreserved coaches be attached to the train exclusively for passengers to Puducherry via Villupuram. Three unreserved sleeper coaches to Egmore, as assured by the Railway authorities, should be also attached to the train. Unreserved ticket holders should be permitted to travel in the sleeper coaches as assured by the authorities, he said.
