Azhikode laments ideological erosion

Staff Reporter

KANNUR: Social critic Sukumar Azhikode has said that ideological erosion has affected political movements in the country.

Inaugurating the valedictory function of a programme organised to observe the 80th anniversary of Athma Vidya Sanghom started by Vaghbatananda Guru here, Prof. Azhikode said the political movements could learn a lot from the guru who had never compromised his principles in his fight against injustice. The `mishrabhojanam' (mixed dining as a protest against casteism) that he had initiated at Azhikode here 80 years ago was a major event at that time.

Stating that Indian renaissance was fundamentally different from the European renaissance, Prof. Azhikode said the renaissance that spread across the country had rejuvenated the country's political, social and religious fields, while the European renaissance had been confined to a small group of people in a small town for the revival of extinct classical texts.
