NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is going to introduce a new curriculum for Classes XI and XII beginning this academic year to develop employable skills in financial markets, accounting and business process outsourcing. The new programme, "Financial Markets Management", will be taught as an independent stream like humanities, commerce and science in CBSE-affiliated schools across the country. Accounting for Business, Introduction to Financial Market, Computer Applications in Financial Market, Commodities Market and BPO skills are some of the subjects that will be taught under the new curriculum for both classes. The course is jointly certified by the CBSE and the National Stock Exchange. "It will endeavour to make school education in the country more responsive to the changing times and offer professional training to students,'' said the Chairman of the Curriculum Development Committee of CBSE, G. C. Sharma, at a press conference here on Saturday. "This course is all set to revolutionise the school education system as the new professional competency-based education will make a paradigm shift by the CBSE from pure academics to development of practical employable schools. It will be introduced in 100-odd schools in metropolitan cities in the first phase," said Mr. Sharma. The BLB Institute of Financial Markets (BIFM) has helped the Board to develop the new course. It is also supporting the Board in writing textbooks and training teachers. If BIFM's claims are anything to go by, then after pursuing FMM, a person can get a job immediately after he clears Class XII and can work as a dealer in stock exchange or start trading for any brokerage house. "We are aiming to hone the employable skills of students. The course will develop financial and investment capabilities at an early stage of their career. To work as a dealer, one has to pass the National Stock Exchange Certification on Financial Management. The new curriculum has this component enabling students to get a job after Class XII," said BIFM Director Siddhartha Bagri.
