Drive to clear encroachments

Sanjay Jaju inspects road-widening in Balkampet, Erragadda

HYDERABAD: The MCH has once again announced a massive enforcement drive from January 22 (Monday) to clear all encroachments in Balkampet and Erragadda areas and also to impose heavy penalties on corporate colleges, businessmen and others who have erected banners, signboards and cut-outs.

Commissioner Sanjay Jaju took the decision after making an inspection on Saturday in these areas where large-scale road-widening exercise was going on. He was irked with the engineering wing over the quality of work in restoring 8-foot-wide footpaths on either side of the road along the Balkampet and Erragadda roads.

The executive engineer of the project division concerned is to be issued a memo for not overseeing qualitative work. Electric poles, telephone booths, garbage bins and the likes are to be removed on a war footing since most of the commercial establishments were brought under bulk garbage system.
