Bangalore: M. Natarajan, Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister, on Saturday said that the Government would shortly make an assessment on the reported ground based ballistic missile that China had fired to "kill" an aging satellite. Speaking to presspersons here on Saturday, Mr. Natarajan said information on the Chinese test was only just flowing in. Mr. Natarajan also said the software that had been used in the designing of India's very own interceptor missile that had been launched last November was "fairly good", indicating India's capability and the scientists' competency. But he said that the technology know-how for targeting satellites would be developed over a period of time. The Kaveri engine would be developed with a partner who would shortly be identified. Adding that the basic character of the engine that was under development for over 19 years "won't change", Mr. Natarajan said that some "fine tuning" was needed. Mr. Natarajan, who briefed the media on the Aero India International Seminar and Exhibition that will start from February 5, said that the Indian Air Force would shortly indicate its final choice from the design that the Centre for Airborne Systems (CABS) had offered for the building of a smaller Airborne Warning and Control System (AWCS). According to Mr. Natarajan, the seminar was an ideal platform for Indian aeronautical designers, manufacturers, test and evaluation engineers, system integrators and pilots to meet their counterparts from other countries.
