BANGALORE: This year's Republic Day flower show at the Lalbagh Botanical Gardens will be special in more ways than one.

To commemorate 150 years of the gardens' founding, the State Horticulture Department has arranged various activities as a build-up for the flower show.

Training and competitions in ikebana, Indian floral arrangement, dry flower arrangement, Dutch flower arrangement, Thai art and vegetable carving are to be held from January 21 to 24. The prizes will be distributed on January 24.

Paintings

On the same day, the paintings of a horticulture-based competition by 60 school students will be exhibited.

The general public can visit the exhibition from 8 a.m. to noon. The department has prepared a 45-minute documentary as a tribute to the contributions of key persons such as John Cameron, G.H. Krumbigal. Raubahadur, H.C. Javarai and M.H. Mari Gowda to the development of the Botanical gardens.
