Anand draws with Radjabov

Negi goes down fighting

NEW DELHI: Viswanathan Anand and leader Teimour Radjabov tested each other for 42 moves before agreeing for a draw in the seventh round of the Corus chess tournament at Wijk aan Zee, in Holland, on Saturday.

Anand played white in this Sicilian game and tried hard to create chances. He pressed for a decisive attack on Radjabov's castled king after the battle saw some early exchanges on the queenside.With Radjabov's defending correctly in an endgame involving a queen, a rook and four pawns each, draw was agreed.

Later, top seed Veselin Topalov (five points) moved with half a point of Radjabov following his 58-move victory with black pieces over former World champion Ruslan Ponomariov.

Meanwhile, in Group `C', Parimarjan Negi fought all the way against Sweden's Emanual Berg before accepting defeat in 84 moves.
