CHENNAI
: Film stars Suriya and Jyotika have done an awareness film on autism, directed by Jayendra Panchapakesan and filmed by P.C. Sreeram, which was released on Friday.
The release of the film marks Autism Awareness Week, launched by We Can (an organisation for the welfare of the autistic) and starts on Sunday.
The film will be screened in 135 digital theatres, and information brochures about autism and symptoms will be distributed at paediatric clinics and health centres across the city. Gita Srikanth of We CAN told reporters that they are looking for NGOs from other parts of the State to distribute the brochures in their hometowns.
Suriya launched the film, which is less than a minute. He said "Jo" was also supposed to be present, but she was in Mumbai for her mother's birthday.
He released copies of We CAN pamphlets on autism. Interested people may contact We CAN at 65461010. Ms. Srikanth said though autism was a lifelong disorder, it could be overcome with intensive training.
