Cut down fuel prices: Raja

Staff Reporter

MADURAI: Communist Party of India national secretary D. Raja on Sunday urged the Central Government to cut down petrol and diesel prices in tune with global oil prices.

"In the absence of an administered price mechanism, the UPA Government must take quick steps as the crude oil prices have come down significantly in the international market," Mr. Raja said here.

The Left parties had already made a representation to the Government and would reiterate the demand.

He said the CPI was launching a nationwide campaign on March 1 to highlight the `failures' of the Manmohan Singh Government on issues related to Dalit atrocities, minorities and reservation. Public meetings and discussions would be organised across the country for 15 days.

On Sri Lanka the party had expressed its concerns to the Centre. "Our party is of the view that the Sri Lankan Government and the LTTE must initiate a dialogue," Mr. Raja said. Military action would not bring any solution to the issue.

The CPI leader welcomed the Prime Minister's announcement on a national Rehabilitation Policy.

Mr. Raja was here to address a seminar on `globalisation and its adverse impacts on our health system', organised by the Doctors' Association for Social Equality.
