HYDERABAD: India's Gagan Narang struck gold in the 10 metre air rifle event of the Hungarian Open shooting championships at Ikreny, tallying a total of 700.8 on Sunday, according to information received here. On Saturday, he claimed bronze in the same event with a score of 698. Among the elite European shooters that the crack-shot from Hyderabad defeated on Sunday enroute to the gold was former World No. 1 Sidi Peter, a winner of several World Cup competitions. The ace marksman, who clinched a dozen international medals in 2005-06, including the Guangzhou World Cup gold, was happy that his the new kit improved his performance by about three to four points. He wasn't as lucky with his new rifle though, which he chose not to shoot with, on account of a technical snag. The results (10m air rifle): Saturday: 1. Zoltan Balaz 702.8 (Slovakia) 2. Sidi Peter 701.2 (Hungary) 3. Gagan Narang 698 (India). Sunday: 1. Gagan 700.8 (Ind) 2. Sidi 699.9 (Hun) 3. Adam Kovats 693.9 (Hun).
