Buenos Aires: The Netherlands beat Argentina 1-0 on an early goal by Maartje Paumen to win the women's Champions Trophy hockey tournament at Quilmes (Argentina) for the fifth time. The Dutch forced two penalty corners in the second minute and Paumen, who scored twice in its World Cup final victory last October, slammed in the second one. The Netherlands' steely defence then made it hard work for Argentina just to cross into Dutch territory.
Germany bags bronze
In the bronze-medal match, Olympic champion Germany downed Australia 2-0, and Rika Komozawa's second-half goals led Japan past Spain 2-0 to finish fifth. — AP
