NEW DELHI: Ridge Bachao Andolan (RBA), a confederation of individuals and non-government organisations, has called the Delhi Development Authority's Master Plan for Delhi-2021 defective on the ground that the Ridge area in South and South-West Delhi is not yet clearly demarcated and the maps of the Ridge used for the Master Plan are not in tune with the ground reality. The RBA has also pointed out that the DDA failing to get the Ridge completely surveyed and demarcated would amount to contempt of the Supreme Court orders. As per the letter, on April 24, 1993, the Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi had appointed the Loveraj Kumar Committee to suggest management pattern for the Delhi Ridge. The committee was provided maps and information by the DDA on the extent of the Ridge. The Committee recommended that once again the Ridge should be surveyed and demarcated as the then existing demarcation didn't show the ground reality. Further, the letter pointed out, the same shortcoming with the respect to the Ridge came to the fore when the DDA announced a luxury International Hotel Complex on an area of 223 hectares falling between Vasant Vihar and Vasant Kunj in 1996. Following a petition by Citizens for Preservation of Quarries and Lakes' Wilderness, the Supreme Court ordered that the status of the Ridge be determined. Meanwhile, the DDA had to scrap the project when the survey by the Geographical Survey of India revealed that around 1,000 hectares, including the hotel complex, came under the Ridge.
