dated January 24, 1957: Menon's reply to Noon

Mr. V.K. Krishna Menon told the Security Council on January 23: "It must be planted effectively in your minds that the issue in Kashmir is aggression, that the issue is invasion." Replying to the statement made by the Pakistan Foreign Minister, Mr. Firoz Khan Noon, last week, he said the issue was not one of annexation of territory but of India's original complaint that Pakistan must be stopped from continuing her aggression. He said he would not indulge in invective and cited the signing of the trade agreement between India and Pakistan on January 22 as a sign of India's determination to maintain "a current of co-operation between our two countries."
