When book lovers got together

Special Correspondent

MANGALORE: The image of the coastal city of Mangalore as a place not suitable to be the venue for any all-India book launch seems to have been broken.

Bharat Bookmark organised a nationwide book release function for `Beware Falling Coconuts' by former BBC producer Adam Clapham, in the city on January 21. Another great name associated with the book is that of Mario Miranda, cartoonist from Goa. The foreword has been written by Mark Tully, BBC's former South Asia correspondent.

Prasar Bharati chairman M.V. Kamath spoke of his six-decade journalistic stint and of the pulling down of the Berlin Wall, on the occasion.

"I was there when the wall was built and also when it was pulled down. But I think I failed to document it the way Adam has done it," he said.

Amazing account

"I have seen enough and more of foreigners writing about India, but must say they are all negative. However, I am grateful to my friend Adam to have been so kind and considerate when talking about my country. What is so amazing is the way in which he has recalled the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. He needs to be complimented a lot and Indians should be truly grateful to him for his contribution," he added.
