Indians win

NEW DELHI: Both Viswanathan Anand and Parimarjan Negi recorded resounding 41-move victories in Sicilian Defence in the ninth round of the Corus chess tournament on Tuesday.

Wely offered a rook for a bishop on the 21st move. Anand, who had sacrificed a couple of pawns early for active play, controlled the queenside better and eventually forced resignation by threatening to claim one of the two knights.

In Group `C', Parimarjan was at his tactical best against Harmen Jonkman. The Dutchman gave up rooks for bishops in his bid to gain a winning edge but the 13-year-old cleverly sacrificed both rooks and won by bringing the queen back on the board.
