Special Correspondent
Thiruvananthapuram: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has attributed the deteriorating law and order in different parts of the State to the Home Department's failure to function properly. VHP State general secretary Kalady Manikantan, in a statement here on Tuesday, mentioned in particular the incidents that took place in connection with the Hindu melas and shobha yathras being organised to mark the birth centenary of Guru Golwalker. The other incidents included the ones which took place in Thirunavaya in Malappuram district, the blast near the venue of the public meeting which was being addressed by the Leader of the Opposition, the gutting of what was left of the boat involved in the Beypore blast and the use of bombs and the chain-snatchings in places such as Kazhakuttam, Kadinamkulam and Pothencode in Thiruvananthapuram. Mr. Manikantan said that Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan could not evade the responsibility for the failure to handle these developments effectively and sought the Minister's resignation.
