NEW DELHI: Four young men have been arrested by the Special Staff of the South Delhi police on charges of killing an elderly woman at her Kalkaji residence before fleeing with cash and jewellery worth thousands last month. Akhil Mukherjee informed the Kalkaji police on December 27 that his mother Sneh Mukherjee (58) was found dead in her house. Initially the doctors could not give a firm opinion on the cause of her death. Enquiries by the police revealed that Ms. Mukherjee's son Akhil was involved in a cheating case and had been to jail where he came in contact with some criminal elements. The police zeroed in on one of his contacts, Miraaz. During interrogation on January 20, Miraaz allegedly confessed to his involvement in the case. He purportedly disclosed that Akhil, who had been deserted by his family, used to send him to collect money from his mother. Finding that she had been living alone, he allegedly conspired with his accomplices to kill her and steal the valuables kept in the house.
