KOCHI: A national seminar and exhibition of applications of radioisotopes and radiation technology (ISOTECH-2007) will be held at Nirmala College, Muvattupuzha, between Wednesday and Friday. Chief Executive of the Board of Radiation and Isotope Technology (BRIT), Mumbai, A. K. Kohli, will preside over the inaugural function of the seminar scheduled to begin at 9.45 a. m. on the opening day. Vice-Chancellor of Cochin University of Science and Technology P. K. Abdul Aziz will inaugurate the programme. George Punnakkottil, patron of the college, will deliver a special message on the occasion. P. C. Thomas, MP, will release the proceedings of the seminar at which senior scientists from the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India and the BARC, Mumbai, will offer felicitations. The seminar and exhibition are being organised jointly by various science departments of the college, National Association for the Applications of Radioisotopes and Radiation Industry, Mumbai, and the Board of Radiation and Isotope Technology, Mumbai. The programme is co-sponsored by the Department of Atomic Energy, Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, Board for Research in Nuclear Science, Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of Kerala and the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment. The main objectives of the seminar are to update the academic community and enlighten the public about the latest developments in the application of radioisotopes in agriculture, industry, healthcare, food preservation. Identification of the immediate needs of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in the applications of radioisotopes and radiation technology and to create a forum for interaction between scientists, potential users and the public are the other objectives of the programme.
