KOCHI: The Ernakulam District Panchayat and the District Industries Centre will jointly organise a meeting of entrepreneurs, representatives of local bodies, bankers and officials of Government departments on February 12 here as part of a district-wide effort to increase enterprises. The meeting will be a forum for entrepreneurs who have floated new ventures as well as those wishing to launch their projects in the near future, said an official of the District Industries Centre here on Monday. He said the occasion would be used to bring together entrepreneurs and officials of Government departments such as State Electricity Board and the Pollution Control Board. There will also be representatives of banks to discuss the funding of new enterprises. There will be presentations, a seminar and an interactive session at the programme being organised at the Ernakulam Town Hall, said the official. The DIC had seen enthusiastic response to the Prathyasa programme which saw registration of around 2,500 new enterprises. The aim of the DIC was to provide fresh employment to 10,000 people through new enterprises as part of a State-wide entrepreneurship development campaign. Entrepreneurs who had applied for registration under the Prathyasa programme and those who are making investments to the tune of Rs.25 lakh or more are being invited to the discussions on February 12. The occasion will also be used to release the findings of a study conducted by the International Centre for Economic Policy and Analysis, Department of Applied Economics and Cochin University of Science and Technology. The study, titled `Industrial Potential of Ernakulam District: A Block-wise Study,' was conducted at the behest of the State Industries Department and funded by the District Panchayat. The study has focussed on the industrial potential of various blocks in Ernakulam district and come out with recommendations on the potential for enterprise in each of the blocks.
