NAGAPATTINAM: Four students, belonging to the fishermen community of the tsunami-hit Akkaraipettai in Nagapattinam, have won an national award for their project on `Rare fish and their breeding habits' presented at the National Science Congress held in Sikkim recently. V. Gomathi, team leader, R. Nisha and P. Vijayabalan of the Government Higher Secondary School, Akkaraipettai, and S. Suganya of the Municipal Girls Higher Secondary School, Nagapattinam all students of Standard IX did the project under the guidance of K. Siva, a volunteer of the Tamil Nadu Science Forum and a resource person for the after school programme at the Akkaraipettai centre introduced by the UNICEF.
