TIRUCHI: The information technology park to be promoted by the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu will come up at Navalpattu on the outskirts of the city. About 135.04 acres, off the Tiruchi-Pudukottai Highway, has been transferred to the ELCOT. The park will include a built-up area of one million square feet, which will be open for allotment besides plots to be constructed by the Corporation. The ELCOT plans to get the park declared a special economic zone for IT and IT-enabled services, Managing Director C. Umashankar told The Hindu . Though there has been much speculation on the location, ELCOT and district administration officials have settled for Navalpattu, which offers scope for expansion. "We are looking at the possibility of getting more land adjoining the site at Navalpattu," Mr. Umashankar said. Besides being revenue land, which is easy to transfer, the site is closer to the airport. The ELCOT will begin construction of the built-up area after obtaining the Government's approval. Work on strengthening the approach road is expected to begin soon. The demand for space in the Tiruchi park, Mr. Umashankar said, was as good as those in the other Tier-II cities.
