KOZHIKODE : The 12-hour hartal in Kasaragod taluk called by the United Democratic Front (UDF) on Tuesday to protest against the violence in LBS College of Engineering was peaceful and near-total. Kasaragod District Collector N.A. Krishnankutty said no major law and order problems on account of the hartal were reported till evening. Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan attended two programmes in Kasaragod district on Tuesday. These were at Thrikkaripur and Kayyor, both outside Kasaragod taluk where the UDF had observed hartal. The UDF had called for a hartal to press its demand for strong action against those behind the violence in LBS engineering college. After the latest clashes in the series of violent incidents involving students of the college, members believed to be loyal to MSF, KSU and SFI were admitted to hospital.
