Bhavana Priyanka in semifinals

HYDERABAD: Bhavana Priyanka defeated Alookia 8-6 in the girls' under-12 quarterfinals of the MCH Open tennis tournament at Indira Park here on Tuesday.

The results: Quarterfinals: Men's singles: Gautam Kadiri bt Somal Srinivas 8-4; S. Gautham bt J. Venkat Ramana 8-3; Bhagirath bt Ayaz 8-1.

Boys: U-14: P. Ashish Rao bt Vamshidhar 8-4; Nikhil Arora bt S.A. Wahab 8-0.

Girls: U-12: Nayanika Reddy bt Amreen Naaz 8-0; Bhavana Priyanka bt Alookia 8-6; Amrutha bt Bindiya Khawani 8-2. Men's doubles: Rajendra Mimje/ V. Ramana bt Amit/ Vivek 8-7(3).

Volleyball tournament

The All-India Industrial Exhibition Society will organise an invitation volleyball tournament for men and women (U-21 years) under the aegis of Hyderabad District Volleyball Association at Hyderabad YMCA from Jan. 28 to 30. All affiliated units of the association can take part. Entries close by Jan. 25 and details can be had from L. Venkatram Reddy, Secretary of HDVA.

It was also announced that AIIES would organise an Open handball tournament from Jan. 25 to 28. Interested schools, colleges, clubs and departmental teams can compete and details can be had from Anil Misra, Secretary of AIIES.

SBH posts win

State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH) scored a nine-wicket win over MP Colts in the A-Division (one-day) knock-out cricket tournament here.

The scores: MP Colts 104 (Danny Derek Prince 71) lost to SBH 106 for one (Daniel Manohar 51 n.o.).

10K road races

The Hyderabad District Athletic Association will organise the Hyderabad 10K road races on Jan. 28 from 6.30 a.m. at the Osmania University Grounds. Competitions will be held for men and boys U-18 years (8 km), women and girls U-18 (6 km), boys and girls in the age groups of U-12, 15 and veteran men and women in four km races.
